Background

Employment History:

Mahmood obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1971 and his Master of Laws degree in 1977 both from the University of Singapore. He is currently enrolled at the University of Western Australia for the degree of Doctor of Juridical Sciences (SJD). He is an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court in Australia.

He commenced practising law in 1973 when he was appointed State Counsel and Deputy Public Prosecutor with the Inland Revenue Department in Singapore. He then was appointed a partner in a legal firm practising mainly in taxation law and commercial law.

Mahmood gained international experience with Schlumberger Ltd., a multinational oil well service company, as its Regional Tax Manager (based in Singapore) for the Asia Pacific Region.

He and his family emigrated to Perth in 1982. He practised law in a private legal firm for 6 years before joining Bank of Western Australia Ltd as a legal adviser in 1988. At the Bank he was involved in various capital raisings for the Bank and specialized in matters relating to financial markets and other treasury products. He was also involved in providing legal advice on Banking law and securities.

He left the Bank in 2000 and started his academic career with the University of Western Australia as a tutor in Introduction to Law, Legal Framework of Business, Company Law and Finance Law. He also taught Commercial Law for one semester at Murdoch University.

Mahmood joined ECU in July 2004.
